God uses UPS and Parents
Recently I have been going over Proverbs 31 and Titus 2 in my morning devotions. I decided to do an inventory list of all the attributes of a godly woman. I listed the ones I am doing on one side, and made two categories (”Domestic” and “Character”) for the ones that need more work. After praying about it, I decided to take one trait from each list and focus on that until it can be moved to the “Doing” list. The domestic trait I felt led to was sewing. The character trait I am working on is my words and the attitude they carry to others. Given my propensity for talking all the time, I have already had lots of opportunity to practice thinking before I blurt out what is in my head at any given moment. Progress is slow, but happening. Thank goodness that God is a God of mercy and forgiveness!
The sewing thing was going to be a bit more challenging. I did not want to go to my husband to ask for a lot of money, so instead I prayed. I set a modest amount and began to check around for used sewing machines that I could buy within our budget. My mom used to have an extra one in her garage so I wrote her and offered to buy it if she still had it. I also began to search e-bay and local listings for estate sales. The kids always want to know what I am studying and praying about because they feel like it is being let in on a grown up secret. I explained that mommy was praying for an inexpensive sewing machine because the Bible suggests that is one way to bless your family and bring in some additional income. They thought this would be very cool to pray about and see what God would do. They began adding it to their night prayers. We had been praying about it less than two weeks, when we received our blessing. My mom and dad had gone behind the scenes and researched all these sewing machines, gone to stores to see demonstrations, and searched out all the features most needed for making clothes and quilts. We prayed for a machine we could afford, what God provided through my parents was way better than I could have hoped. When it arrived at the door via UPS, my daughter started dancing and yelling, “Mommy, God uses UPS, too!” What a blessing, God does use UPS and Parents!
