~We bought a house, not my little farm and not Hubby’s house in the woods. We felt God was pushing us to this one, the price was right….though it wasn’t our favorite. We obeyed, are settling in, and waiting to see, “why here”?
~Two weeks after we closed, the Realtor from Hubby’s house in the woods called us to ask if we were still interested….after seeing that the market was dead, they had decided to accept our last offer. Too late though, since we had already signed on the line for a less expensive home in a kid neighborhood. We’re not sure what to make of that…..maybe the ability to sell it soon will factor in and we’ll be grateful we have a lower house payment? Wondering why God timed it, such.
~We’re still waiting on our security deposit from the rental house. Turns out our land-lord is planning to steal it. The house was immaculate, but he’s trying to finance his wife’s gardening hobby and have us pay for it! (The itemized list that they sent us for landscaping included things that were never even in the yard to begin with….we have pictures!)
After viewing the before and after pictures, the lawyers think he’s nuts, the rental agency thinks he’s nuts, but…..Florida Law leans in the favor of the Landlord. We disputed the charge and were told that our deposit would go into a 3rd party escrow until a settlement could be reached in or out of court. Now, they are telling us that that the statutes have changed and they are releasing our deposit to the landlord and we will have to sue to get it back. Grrrr. We are waiting for the final “letter” that will determine how this plays out.
This was going to be the money for a kitchen table (our classroom) and to help pay down some bills. Eating picnic style, won’t kill us, the kids have adapted to home schooling all over the new house, but it’s going to make things quite a bit tighter around here, financially. I don’t feel comfortable suing and elderly couple, it doesn’t sit right as a Christian. At the same time, the man is a crook and we are being robbed. We could end up spending more than what we would get back, by the time we go to court, miss work, pay legal fees, etc. Not sure what we will do. Life lessons reinforced: People can’t be trusted, integrity is nearing extinction…..nothing good to say, so I will move on.
~We have a new critter…..for the time being. A little kitty showed up on our door step and hung out for several days. We tried to find her owners because she was so friendly and clean, we figured she was a pet. The temps got into the 100’s and we noticed that she was really struggling with the heat. Then she disappeared for a day and showed up with cuts and skittish…she had had a very bad night. We put her in the master bathroom to keep her from our cat until we could figure out what to do with her. Now that she has some food and isn’t dehydrated, she is getting bigger by the day….the vet confirmed she is pregnant, and due next month.
We were just going to have her checked out and find her a new home…..now we aren’t so sure. We’re using this as a teaching tool for the kids about caring for God’s creatures, life cycles, and pet responsibility. Ideally, we will get her through this time and try to place her and the kittens in good homes. The reality is that we are all getting attached. She is a cutie and very sweet. Sarge named her Catalina (after the WWII planes PBY-Catalina, of the famous rescue squadron the Black Cats). She is a little 10 month old, short-haired kitty with big yellow eyes, that squeaks instead of meowing. Yeah….we’re getting sucked in.
